Township Clerk Vacancy – Appointment Opportunity
We are aiming to appoint a Clerk before February 27, 2026
Richmond Township is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the vacant Township Clerk position through appointment by the Township Board of Trustees. This is a temporary appointed role that will serve the remainder of the current term. The appointee will have the opportunity to run for election in the next consolidated election cycle if desired.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Township Clerk serves as the official record keeper and performs essential administrative functions, including:

Acting as clerk of the Township Board of Trustees: Preparing agendas, attending meetings (typically held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM), taking and maintaining accurate minutes (including any executive sessions).

Maintaining and preserving all official township records, books, and documents (excluding active general assistance cases).

Recording proceedings of township meetings, including orders, by-laws, and regulations.

Certifying tax levies and amounts to the county clerk.

Posting public notices and handling Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests (often serving as the designated FOIA officer).

Serving as ex-officio clerk for the Road District, maintaining related records, and overseeing bid openings.

Filing oaths, certificates, bonds, and other required documents.

Performing additional administrative duties as required by the Township Board or Illinois law.
This is position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and availability for evening board meetings.
Compensation
-
Annual salary: $6,000 (non-negotiable, as it was set by the Township Board prior to the most recent election in accordance with Illinois law).

No additional benefits such as health insurance are provided for this position.

Qualifications and Requirements
To be eligible for appointment:

Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident of Richmond Township.

Must be a registered voter in the township.

Preferred qualities:
-
Experience in administration, record-keeping, office management, or public service is helpful but not required.

Proficiency with computers and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, email).

Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality.

Training will be provided as needed.
