Township Supervisor Vacancy – Appointment Opportunity

We are aiming to appoint a Supervisor before February 27, 2026

is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the vacant Township Supervisor position through appointment by the Township Board of Trustees.  This is a temporary appointed role that will serve the remainder of the current term. The appointee will have the opportunity to run for election in the next consolidated election cycle if desired.

We invite Richmond Township residents who are passionate about public service and community involvement to express interest in this important role.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Township Supervisor serves as the chief executive officer of the township and performs essential leadership and administrative functions, including:

  • Chairing the Township Board of Trustees meetings (typically held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM).

  • Supervising and administering the General Assistance and Emergency Assistance programs.

  • Serving as Treasurer of all township funds, including General Town Fund, General Assistance, and Road District funds.

  • Preparing and managing the annual budget and tax levy in collaboration with the Board.

  • Overseeing township operations, including staff and office management.

  • Acting as ex-officio Supervisor of General Assistance.

  • Handling financial responsibilities, such as signing checks, maintaining accounts, and filing required reports.

  • Representing the township in community matters and coordinating with county and state officials.

  • Overseeing township cemetery operations, including maintenance, record-keeping, and sales of burial rights.

  • Performing additional duties as required by the Township Board or Illinois law.

This position requires strong leadership skills, financial acumen, availability for evening board meetings, and a commitment to serving the community.

 

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $20,000 (non-negotiable, as it was set by the Township Board prior to the most recent election in accordance with Illinois law).

  • No additional benefits such as health insurance are provided for this position.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be eligible for appointment:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident of Richmond Township.

  • Must be a registered voter in the township.

Preferred qualities:​

  • Experience in leadership, administration, finance, public service, or government is strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with cemetery management or senior services is a plus but not required.

  • Proficiency with computers, budgeting software, and office tools.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and work collaboratively with the Board.

  • Training will be provided as needed.
